Our Science & Technology Heritage Gallery:

Indian Heritage in Science & Technology has a long history of 4500 years. Our Science and Technology Heritage exhibition depicts how, in course of time, side by side with art and literature, there grew up on Indian soil, a very rich scientific and technological culture.
In ancient Sanskrit texts, we can find shades of twentieth-century thinking. Scientific ideas grew in Indian minds more than two thousand five hundred years ago. Concepts of matter, atomism, and cosmic evolution were recorded for posterity. It was also in India that the concept of zero gained meaning. Powers of ten, the golden rule of three, square root, and cube root were worked out 1500 years ago and took 1000 years to reach Europe.
The star had a special message for Indian astronomers. Constellations were identified and motion of the Moon and Sun studied 3000 years ago. Jantar Mantar, a cluster of huge masonry observatories was created by Sawai Jai Singh II for tracking celestial movements. Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita and Astanga Hridaya, written between 1st and 7th century AD form the basis for Ayurveda, or traditional Indian medicine, and are consulted even by modern practitioners.
In modern times, the progress in every field such as space science, nuclear science, information technology, communication, biotechnology, agriculture and food production, energy, transportation etc. is commendable. Today, India has not only achieved self – sufficiency in many fields, but also has been providing infrastructural support and services to many other countries including the developed ones. The cutting edge of science and technology in several developed countries is being driven by the Indians is an accepted fact now.
The past has always been inspiring the future in India. Our long and rich heritage in science and technology defines our strides as we march proudly towards the dream becoming a strong, self – reliant and developed nation Indian Heritage in Science & Technology has a long history of 4500 years.
